Site Description

Close to Ottawa’s urban core, this 310-acre (125-hectare) site presents a rare opportunity to reintegrate this former Canadian Forces Base into the surrounding urban and natural context, creating a vibrant new community that blends seamlessly with the existing character of Ottawa.

The general Rockcliffe area is bounded by:

  • Rockcliffe Parkway to the north
  • National Research Council lands to the east
  • Montfort Hospital and various commercial and residential developments along Montreal Road to the south
  • Aviation Parkway to the west.

The Rockcliffe airfield and the Canada Aviation and Space Museum to the north, at the base of the escarpment are controlled by the National Capital Commission and are not included in the CLC Rockcliffe property.

Site Condition

In accordance with the conditions of the transfer of the Rockcliffe lands to CLC, the Department of National Defence is progressing with the demolition and remediation of the remaining former school building and remediation work in the area of Via Venus and the former Canex building.  That work is expected to begin this fall or winter.
